Justify actions, reflect on a situation, read the 24-hour clock & possessive pronouns: dein(e), sein(e), ihr(e).
Paul tries to find Laura on Facebook. But it’s not easy, and he gives up. Also because this is making him feel like a stalker. Tim calls: He was on vacation. His mobile phone was switched off. Getting accused by Paul makes him angry. He can't have stolen the book because after the party he didn't even have a free hand to carry it. Paul regrets that he is so forgetful and not a good detective. Then he remembers Meili's answer from earlier in the group chat. She said she has a job, but Paul realizes that's not true: She’s only studies. The book is gone, and Tim didn't do it. Was it Meili?

Talk about hobbies, make small talk, four seasons & possessive pronouns: unser(e), euer/eure.
Paul meets Meili "by chance" near the university. He is more clever now: They make small talk about hobbies. He casually asks about Meili's job and apologizes for what he wrote earlier. It turns out that her message was just a misunderstanding: Meili doesn't have to work. Her parents pay everything for her. Then she remembers having seen a security camera in the hallway of Paul's apartment building! Will Paul be able to see who stole the book on the video from the security camera?

Sunday Aug 21, 2022

Sunday Aug 21, 2022

Talk about law and permissions, describe people’s actions & noun-noun composites: Wohnungseingang / Hausflur / Hausmeister.
Paul watches the surveillance video in the caretaker’s office. After the party, Meili and Tim didn't visibly carry his book when leaving his apartment. Neither did Anna and Fritz, but they each had a bag. Paul seems to think his book was in one of the bags. Fritz is a police officer. So the suspicion is narrowed down on Anna ... The book is gone, Tim and Meili didn't do it. Was it Anna?

The best way to learn German: Don't beat yourself up with too many new words
When writing a learning story it's easy to get carried away by an idea for a dialog. But that can result in an episode having way too many new words. If you want know why we spent over 1 1/2 years of work before we even published our first lesson, got to german-stories.com/the-best-way-to-learn-german

Fritz and Paul are training in the gym. Fritz warns him not to keep upsetting their friends with his messages. Instead, he suggests a party at Paul's place. What is Fritz's idea? How does he want to help?

Learning German with training wheels
The characters in our story DON'T speak at a regular speed, just like native speakers among themselves. Why?They speak natural German. But we put in countless hours of work to direct every voice actor so that he or she speaks a bit slower and more clearly, adapted to the language level. You can always speed up the audio in the app. We believe this is the better way. Just as we believe that at the beginning, training wheels teach a child to ride a bike better than bruises from falls do. Give and receive information about somebody & plural: nouns that get an -en/-n ending.
Fritz sends Paul some information: Anna has a criminal record for theft. Paul also knows she likes to read. Now he suspects her even more but he doesn’t want to risk asking her directly if she is the one who stole his book. So he decides to book a trip to Berlin for Fritz, Anna and himself. He needs a vacation anyway and he could collect more information about her during the trip. But right now she's still angry and probably wouldn’t come along ... How can Paul get Anna to come along for the trip?

Paul and Fritz take a look at some nice cars in a showroom. He talks about the trip to Berlin. Fritz is excited and wants to come along. But he doubts Anna would join them. So Paul shows him Anna's answer. It says "Paul, I didn't even know that! I’ll come with you." Fritz is totally puzzled: How on earth did Paul manage to do that? Yesterday she was so angry at him ... Text: e-mail, use simple past tense for written language & plural: nouns that get no ending but sometimes change to an ä/ö/ü, simple past forms for regular verbs.
Fritz reads Paul's invitation email. He cleverly used the information about Anna's criminal record without giving away that he knows about it. He described his own theft as a child and the feelings of guilt that went with it. In doing so, he very skillfully created understanding for his situation. Fritz and Anna will join Paul on the trip to Berlin. But they don't know anything about the surveillance video or Paul’s intention. What exactly is he going to do in Berlin?

Learn German with Stories - the idea behind it
We felt that the best way to learn German is NOT using the old style teaching material with chapters full of tiny texts and unrelated stories. Our idea was to spoon-feed you German in very small bits. And to tell you parts of one big story at the same time. An awesome, full-blown story with different storylines that continues throughout all lessons. We wanted to keep you motivated and say "I can't wait to find out what happens next episode!" The train departs and they talk about sights in Berlin. Fritz gets a phone call and talks like he is in love. Paul catches Anna lying: her phone battery is not empty. But Anna ignores Paul's question about this. Does Fritz have a new girlfriend? Annas cell phone battery is not empty. Why is she lying?
